Waiting for the summer...

The school year is almost over!

Close your eyes for a moment and think about the school holidays. Then write the words or draw the pictures of the things you thought of here:  ……………………………………………………………………………………………………

Your summer holidays can be a really exciting time, you might have a holiday booked that you’ve been looking forward to. Or you might be excited about spending more time with your family and friends.
The summer holidays can be a great chance to spend some enjoyable time with peers, friends, relatives … But sometimes you may feel lonely a bit. Or you might miss the routine you have when you’re in school.
It’ll take a while to get used to it. Just be patient, rest as much as possible with a good companion by your side.
The summer can be a time when you often start new relationships. Making friends is really exciting.

Safety first! Do not forget that staying safe and sound is important!                  So wherever you go follow the rules and just be careful!

Hobby or Holiday?

Ever wanted to go gorilla spotting or is exotic food tasting more right up your street? Find out what is popular in the UK.

Summer holiday trends and suggestions in the United Kingdom:

Experiential holidays
‘Experiential’ holidays are the new vogue. Brits are no longer content with two weeks spent sunning themselves on a beach, they require something more to fulfill their holiday needs – whether trying something new in familiar places or going to somewhere completely different. Even though Spain is still the UK’s number one holiday destination, it is themed holidays such as riding, dancing, golfing and trekking that are popular rather than the beach. France attracts people interested in golf, cultural, gastronomic and spa holidays. Further afield there is gorilla spotting in Uganda, whale spotting in Iceland, and white-water rafting in New Zealand.

 Walking holiday
Philip, a librarian from Gloucester, enjoys walking holidays. He goes to a country specifically to go walking in the countryside. If there are mountains or lakes nearby, this is even better. With a dislike of beach holidays, national parks are the ideal holiday location. He prefers short breaks as he dislikes being away from work for too long, but tries to see as much of the local countryside as possible. Phiilip’s favourite rural destinations are Germany and Romania as they both offer excellent walking and lots of different landscapes.

Yoga Holiday
Natalie is a shop assistant. Her priority for a holiday was to relax and improve her yoga moves. She chose to go to Ibiza as it is a beautiful place offering fantastic beaches and is a world- renowned yoga retreat. She says ‘As a single person, I was nervous about going on my own but found that most other people on the holiday were also single and of a similar age.’ Not only did she find like-minded people but also improved her mental and physical well-being. The world is feeling smaller. With cheaper flights and flexible holidays it is getting easier for us to follow our dreams and attain the ultimate holiday experience.

If you could choose an ‘experiential holiday’ and combine a holiday with a hobby, what would you do? Why?

What are your personal holiday plans and preferences??? ;)

I wish you the best summer ever! Have a nice summer vacation!  Go to beautiful places, enjoy the countryside, go to the beach, go shopping, enjoy! I hope your vacation will give you the pleasure you need so that you don't have to think of any problems back at home!

HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY!

When is International Children's Day?
International Children's Day is a public holiday observed in some countries on June 1st.
History of International Children's Day.
The origin of this holiday goes back to 1925 when representatives from different countries met in Geneva, Switzerland to convene the first "World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children".
After the conference, some governments around the world designated a day as Children's Day to highlight children's issues. There was no specific date recommended, so countries used whatever date was most relevant to their culture.
The date of June 1st is used by many ex-Soviet countries as 'The International Day for Protection of Children' was established on 1 June 1950 following the Women's International Democratic Federation's congress in Moscow that took place in 1949.

With the creation of World Children's Day, UN member states recognized children, regardless of race, colour, sex, religion and national or social origin, the right to affection, love, understanding, adequate food, medical care, free education, protection against all forms of exploitation and growing in a climate of universal peace and brotherhood.
Many countries have established a Children's Day but this is commonly not observed as a public holiday. For instance, some countries observe Children's' Day on November 20th as Universal Children’s Day. This day was established by the United Nations in 1954 and aims to promote the welfare of children around the world.

HAPPY EASTER!

 HAPPY EASTER!
Hello again! It’s so nice to meet you again. Although the time is tough for all of us, we’re getting ready for such a joyful festival.
Easter is coming soon!
Let’s remind some important facts about it!

Easter is a spring festival. In the Christian festival, it celebrates the resurrection of Christ. In the European pre-Christian tradition,                  it celebrates the return of nature and greenery after the cold, snowy winter. Both the Christian and pagan versions of Easter celebrate life and rebirth.
The Easter chick symbolises new life, the rabbit represents fertility and the egg symbolises both. That is why painted eggs or chocolate eggs are given as gifts at Easter.

Many churches hold special services on Easter Sunday, which celebrate Jesus Christ’s resurrection after his crucifixion. Many people also dye eggs. These can be hard-boiled eggs that can be eaten later, but may also be model eggs made of plastic, chocolate, sweets or other materials. It is also common to organise Easter egg hunts. Eggs of some form are hidden, supposedly by a rabbit. People, especially children, then search for them, having so much fun!

Throughout the English-speaking world, many Easter traditions are similar, with only minor differences. For example, Saturday is traditionally spent decorating Easter eggs and hunting for them with children on Sunday morning, by which time they have been mysteriously hidden all over the house and garden.
Other traditions involve parents telling their children that eggs and other treats, such as chocolate eggs or rabbits, have been delivered by the Easter Bunny in an Easter basket, which children find waiting for them when they wake up. Many families observe the religious aspects of Easter
by attending Sunday Mass or services in the morning and then participating in a feast or a party in the afternoon. Some families have      a traditional Sunday roast, often of either lamb or ham.

The British celebrate Easter slightly differently than the Poles.                        First of all, they do not associate Easter with the church
as much as Poles do. They approach it with joy rather than reflection.        On the islands, Easter baskets are unlikely to be celebrated, and colorful Easter eggs have been replaced with  chocolate eggs and bunnies.                 Of course, Easter cuisine in the UK is also different from that in Poland. They don't have our mazurka  or other Easter cakes there. Instead, simnel cake appears on English tables,  which is a fruit cake with marzipan mass. On top are 11 characteristic marzipan balls that symbolize the 11 apostles (without Judas).
Hot Cross Buns are also popular. These are sweet rolls with spices             and a characteristic white cross on top. Among the sweets there is         also Easter pudding, which is a cupcake poured with a sauce that resembles vanilla pudding.

Easter bunny – Zajączek Wielkanocny

Easter card – kartka wielkanocna
an egg hunt – szukanie jajek wielkanocnych
hot cross bun – drożdżowa bułeczka ze znakiem krzyża
roast lamb – pieczona jagnięcina
simnel cake – ciasto z bakaliami i marcepanem

Easter is the time we spend mainly with family and, this year mainly at home.

I wish you hope, love and plenty of colorful Easter eggs. Happy Easter!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The smile on your face
The sun in the sky
The love in your heart
And you will be mine!

Valentine's Day - an annual holiday of lovers falling on February
14th. The name comes from Saint Valentine, a real man, who
was a priest and lived in near Rome around 270 AD. The Emperor
Claudius II wouldn’t let young men get married at that time,
because he wanted them to be soldiers, not husbands.
Bishop Valentine felt sorry for them, so he used to help them meet
and merry in secret.
Currently, Valentine's Day is not only a day for lovers. This is
the day when we have the opportunity to show that we care about
someone important. We can please our parents or friends.
We can also send our chosen ones an anonymous
Valentine's card.
The tradition of this day is to send love letters. In the West,
especially in Great Britain and the United States, Saint Valentine
is the patron of lovers. Therefore, February 14th became a special
day or exchanging small gifts, chocolates  and red roses.

It is now hugely popular throughout the world. In the UK, people
send cards, poems, flowers and presents to those they love
(or want to love).
Valentine’s Day is a big day in the shops, too, with many lovely
romantic goods to choose from. Some people feel it has become
too commercial, but is there really anybody who isn’t happy
to receive a Valentine’s card?

Valentine's day expressions:
Love at first sight - miłość od pierwszego wejrzenia
To be a couple - być parą
To be hung up on someone - ciągle o kimś myśleć

To be head over heels in love -być zakochanym po uszy

To be in love - być zakochanym
To be the one and only - być tą jedną jedyną

To break someone's heart - złamać komuś serce

To celebrate Valentine's Day - obchodzić walentynki

To die of a broken heart - umrzeć z powodu złamanego serca

To fall in love - zakochać się
To get down on one knee - oświadczyć się

To get engaged - zaręczyć się
To get married - pobrać się
To go on a date - iść z kimś na randkę

To have a heart of gold - mieć serce ze złota
